John Morton first came to Lourdes as a boy at Ampleforth College in the 1950s. He continued to serve our Pilgrimage throughout his life and was dedicated to the Hospitalite of Notre Dame de Lourdes.

John served as Pilgrimage Director and a Brancardier on the pilgrimage, as well as being a regular member of Fr Francis Dobson's July Stage group. He delighted in seeing young school leavers develop a love of service in Lourdes and mentored many through their years of Pilgrimage and Stage. 

​

When John was asked to serve the Pilgrimage as Honorary Life President he took to the role with his characteristic kindness and enthusiasm, offering a kind word and genuine thanks to all those he presented with medals of long service.

He will be greatly missed by our whole Ampleforth Hospitalite and will be remembered in our prayers. He is pictured below with Abbot Robert Igo OSB, Abbot of Ampleforth, on a recent visit to the Abbey.
